What happens to wind turbine blades at the end of their service life? This is precisely the shortcoming of green energy suppliers—to date, there is no environmentally sustainable solution for this. To potentially change this in the future, we at TCKT are researching the reuse of shredded wind turbine blades in new composite panels. This research has resulted in the first publication that can provide the foundation for the structural use of this waste material in new products.

“Investigation of Shredded Glass Fiber Composites from Post-Industrial and Post-Consumer Waste from Wind Turbine Blades for Reuse in Structural Epoxy Resin Plates“ was submitted to the MDPI journal “Fibers” at the end of March and published already in mid-April. This study was made possible by the “rGFK goes Trailer” project, funded by the state of Upper Austria, in which the newly developed composite material is intended to replace the existing floor panels in truck trailers.
